Listen: A simple relaxation

A guided enquiry

For many years, I taught yoga to young people with specific needs in schools and care homes. It was always clear to me that if anyone needed a break and a bit of self-care, it was probably the staff, and I know they would have agreed. And on rare occasions, we did actually manage to carve out a little time for the staff to join me for a little stretching and relaxation.

This recording is from one of those times. I share a lot of yoga nidras that are accessible, but they’re usually for people who have at least a passing interest in yoga. This one is different. You can imagine the context for yourself - of half a dozen teachers at the end of their work day, unrolling their mats and worrying whether they’re wearing the right clothes and whether the kids will see them through the windows. It’s just under 8 minutes long, and takes the listener through the simplest of relaxation practices.

I think it is proof that while we all love to take our students through a lovely long yoga nidra, with simple but heart-felt yogic themes, sometimes what you have is less than 10 minutes and a group of people that will giggle nervously if you sound out an Om. And these people too can have a practice that welcomes them just as they are.

So use this recording for yourself when you only have a few minutes to spare, or use it for tips for doing the same with your students, if that’s helpful.

This recording is a gift for paid subscribers, but if you check the archives, you’ll find that every post over a year old is released for free, including many other special yoga nidras.
